10 Best Places to Travel in November

No matter what kind of travel you love, November has something special for you somewhere in the world. If you enjoy cool temps and snow sports, the Northern Hemisphere is perfect, while spots like Australia and the Caribbean offer plenty of sunshine if you’re not ready for winter’s chill. Early holiday festivities also start popping up in November—ideal if you want that festive vibe without the December crowds. Whether you choose the bustling souks of Marrakesh or the cozy charm of the Ozarks, we hope you’ll squeeze in a getaway this November.

Here are 15 of the best places to visit this November.

Dubrovnik, Croatia

Back in June, I spent two days in Dubrovnik at the end of a cruise along Croatia’s coast. My first glimpse of the city was from the sea—its massive walls perched on rugged limestone cliffs, with terracotta rooftops peeking out above. Later, in the Old Town, I wandered along limestone-paved streets lined with Baroque buildings, shops, restaurants, and narrow alleys where every turn held something new. One magical moment? Listening to a choir dressed in white, their voices echoing from an ornate alcove as a crowd gathered. For most visitors, walking along the top of the 13th-century walls is a must—something I’ll definitely do next time. November’s cooler weather and smaller crowds make it a great time for that, unlike my busy June visit.

Where to Stay: The luxurious Hotel Bellevue Dubrovnik sits on a cliff overlooking the Adriatic, complete with a spa, indoor heated pool, and a Michelin-recommended restaurant. I stayed at Hotel More, a five-star boutique spot with the famous Cave Bar, carved right into a natural cave. Another great pick is Hotel Excelsior, a former 1913 villa with an indoor pool, spa, and stunning waterfront views.

Loire Valley, France

A 150-mile drive or just over an hour by train takes you from Paris to the Loire Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its vineyards, châteaux, charming villages, and incredible food.

“Autumn is a fantastic time to visit the Loire Valley,” says Travel + Leisure A-List advisor Mark Bonte of French Side Travel“The fall leaves create a beautiful contrast against the stark white castles, and you’ll avoid the big tourist crowds.”

He adds that the castles are a must-see—locals even call this region “The Garden of France.” Wine tasting is another highlight, and if you visit late in the month, you’ll catch the castles decked out in Christmas decor—perfect for Americans celebrating Thanksgiving and wanting an early dose of holiday cheer.

Where to Stay: The Hôtel Château du Grand-Lucé, built in 1760, has been beautifully restored with gardens inspired by Versailles. For something unique, Loire Valley Lodges offers luxury treehouses with hot tubs and forest views.

St. Barts

By November, hurricane season is over, and peak travel season is just beginning—making it the perfect time for a trip to Saint Barthélemy (St. Barts). The weather is warm and sunny, the beaches are stunning, and there’s plenty happening. The St. Barth Gourmet Festival (Nov. 5-10) brings top chefs for a celebration of French and local cuisine. The Caribbean Rum Awards and Cata Cup sailing regatta also draw crowds.

If you ever get tired of beach lounging (unlikely), there’s shopping, hiking, and more. Picking a hotel might be the toughest part—the island is full of gorgeous options. Once that’s done, all that’s left is sunny days, amazing food, and pure island bliss.

Where to Stay: Le Barthélemy Hotel & Spa stands out for its wellness center, Le Spa. For more luxury, try Rosewood Le GuanahaniHôtel Barrière Le Carl GustafLe Sereno, or Cheval Blanc St-Barth.

Germany

Germany has so much to offer, especially as the year winds down and its famous Christmas markets appear.

“In early November, Berlin gets jazzy,” says A-List advisor Sofia Markovich of Sofia’s Travel“For 60 years, musicians from Berlin and beyond have gathered for Jazzfest Berlin, one of Europe’s oldest and most prestigious jazz festivals.”

This year, the capital will also mark the 35th anniversary of the Berlin Wall’s fall (Nov. 9). Meanwhile, Munich buzzes with the Tollwood Winter Festival, packed with crafts, organic German treats, colorful lights, and free performances. In Frankfurt, November is opera season—a great time to explore historic buildings and quaint shops.

Argentina

“November is a fantastic month to visit Argentina,” says A-List advisor Jen RichtBuenos Aires and Mendoza are especially nice, with warm days, cool nights, and plenty of outdoor activities.

The Buenos Aires Jazz Festival (Nov. 2-5) and Primavera Sound (Nov. 23-24) bring major music events, and polo season kicks off. In Mendoza, melted snow from the Andes makes rivers perfect for white-water rafting and kayaking. You can also try climbing, ziplining, or mountain biking—or just tour the region’s famous Malbec vineyards.

Music lovers should check out The Long Sunset festival (early November), featuring Aussie artists, yoga, and camping at Elysian Fields, an hour south. From my own trip, I’d recommend a Brisbane River cruise and visiting Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, where I fed kangaroos and saw koalas.

Where to Stay: The Star Brisbane (opening Aug. 29) sits on the riverbank, while Hotel Indigo Brisbane City Centre is a great boutique choice. I loved my stay at The Westin Brisbane—cozy bedding and river views!

Honolulu, Hawaii

November is shoulder season in Hawaii—fewer crowds (except Thanksgiving week) and warm weather. You might get a shower or two, but sunshine usually wins.

Events like the Hawaii Food & Wine Festival (Nov. 6-10) and North Shore surf competitions (thanks to November’s big waves) keep things lively. With fewer tourists, you’ll have more space to snorkel at Hanauma Bay, explore the Bishop Museum and Iolani Palace, visit the Arizona Memorial, or just relax by the pool.

Where to Stay: We’ve rounded up Honolulu’s best hotels, but new highlights include Romer House Waikīkī (adults-only) and Romer Waikīkī at The Ambassador. Other 2024 openings: Renaissance Honolulu Hotel & SpaKa Laʻi Waikīkī Beach, the surf-themed Twin Fin, and luxurious Prince Waikiki.

As a UNESCO City of Gastronomy, San Antonio is a food lover’s dream. History buffs can explore the city’s past, while families enjoy spots like Six Flags Fiesta Texas.

Colorado Springs, Colorado

Nestled about 70 miles south of Denver, Colorado Springs is a gorgeous spot to visit in November, offering early winter skiing at certain resorts, scenic hikes in the Garden of the Gods, and plenty more. As the home of the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Museum, the city is an ideal place to keep the thrill of the Paris Summer Olympic Games alive. History lovers will appreciate the Western Museum of Mining & Industry and the recently renovated Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum, which reopened in July. Another standout is the Ford Amphitheater—an impressive $90 million, 8,000-seat concert venue that debuted in August, complete with five rooftop bars, fire pit suites, and upscale dining, giving Denver’s iconic Red Rocks a run for its money. And if your early November journey begins in Denver, be sure to check out Denver Arts Week, running from November 1st to 10th.

Where to Stay: The Mining Exchange Hotel, now a stylish downtown retreat, originally opened in 1902 as a hub for mining tycoons and investors.
